At the core of my work sits a purpose to build more relational team and corporate cultures where people and businesses thrive. And to do my part to build more connection and relationship in communities too. It turns out that good relationships are good for our mental health too.
This week is mental health awareness week and the theme is relationships. The message from the Mental Health Foundation is clear: good relationships are good for our mental health. They go on to say:
“We believe we urgently need a greater focus on the quality of our relationships. We need to understand just how fundamental relationships are to our health and wellbeing. We cannot flourish as individuals and communities without them.”
At Neon our view is that businesses cannot flourish without them either, and that they badly need attention in many workplaces. So what are we going to do about it? How can we create more connection within and across teams? How can we transform from the transactional to the relational? How can we create a more human environment where people and business can really flourish?
As part of the week, the Mental Health Foundation is setting us a challenge and that is to go the extra mile in prioritising our relationships.
“We are calling on people to make a relationship resolution: to assess how much time we actively commit to building and maintaining good relationships, and to ask whether we can invest more in being present with and listening to friends, family and colleagues.”
It’s not too late. Let’s do it.
